Sonoma County's Department of Health Services is using the Internet to promote and support its Women-Infants-Children (WIC) nutrition counseling and support services.

Screenshot Developed by the federal Food and Nutrition Service of the US Department of Agriculture and administered through states, regions and counties, the Sonoma County WIC Supplemental Nutrition Program is designed to help "pregrant women, new mothers and young children eat well and stay healthy."

Convenient Services for Qualified Families

Qualified families, those with low or moderate incomes, may print out applications available online to be part of the program, which includes receiving checks to purchase healthy foods. Participants can check out nutrition education workshops dealing with the needs of pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, infants and children.
Clinic locations and hours are also listed.

Physical Activity Guides

A set of four physical activity guides developed by the Sonoma County Family Nutrition Task Force will be of interest to all families with children. Here are their titles:
These illustrated guides are full of inexpensive ideas for activities families can do with children. Each guide also provides phone numbers for public facilities where some of these activities might be offered.

The content of these guides is available in full online and in PDF documents. Visitors may take an online survey to let county officials know if the guides were helpful.

There is also a Spanish language version of the entire site.
