Since we prefer short summaries, that's what we use for our own newsfeed. Titles don't given enough information and complete records are often more than you want to know.

Newsfeeds are XML summaries of web publications. The XML files are meant to be read by machines not people. You will need a news reader to translate the XML into something like readable text. News readers are available for almost every type of computer or operating system. Some are stand alone programs, some use the web or an email program such as Outlook. There are news readers for PDA's and even some cell phones.

Once you have a news reader adding subscriptions is easy. Look for links to newsfeeds, RSS, XML on the websites you visit. Copy the link to your news reader and you are subscribed. The news reader will check your list of subscriptions for you and will display new items.

Our favorite news reader is Bloglines. Bloglines is a web-based news reader that is easy to use and share. If you want to see how it works, check out the Piper Resources Bloglines public subscription. We selected a few government related newsfeeds to show the type of information available.
