In Georgia, there are different filing procedures and requirements for new business entities. Therefore, it is important to start by determining the type of business entity you want to register for. There are also different filing fees for each type of business entity and you can get more information about that through the Corporations Division of the Secretary of State website.
You can reserve your business name prior to filing the documents to register your business. You can file this online through this website. It comes with an application fee of $25 and a duly accomplished Name Reservation Form. The name reservation is valid for 30 days to give you enough time to process the necessary documents for business registration. The name reservation does not give you the right to conduct business or legal transactions.
You may now register for business tax at the Georgia Department of Revenue. When registering your business, you need to provide the following information:
· Business name
· Business location
· Business mailing address
· EIN/FEIN
· NAICS code
· Personal information of all business owners
· Email address
Not all businesses are required to register an Employer Identification Number (EIN). Make sure to check if this is a requirement for your type of business.
Meanwhile, you must check your business' NAICS code classification to determine what type of business insurance(s) is required.

As of 2002, the state of Georgia has 156 counties and 531 municipal governments. Most counties have a mayor-council form of municipal government, some have city managers employed by their communities, while a few use a commission system.
